The complete guide to PDF Editor

Last updated June 1, 2026

Editing a PDF directly — changing text, adding annotations, inserting text boxes — avoids the round-trip of converting to Word, editing, and converting back. Convertify's Edit PDF tool works on digitally-generated PDFs and lets you click directly on text to modify it, add free-text annotations anywhere on the page, insert shapes, and highlight passages.

There's an important limitation in all browser-based PDF editors: they edit the rendered view of the PDF, not the underlying text stream. This means fonts are matched as closely as possible, but if your PDF uses a custom embedded font that isn't available in the browser, the edited text will appear in a fallback font. For the most common use cases — correcting a typo, adding a note, filling in a blank field — the visual result is clean.

Real-world scenarios

Correcting a typo in a finalized document

A name is misspelled in a PDF report that's already been formatted and paginated. Edit PDF fixes it in place — no need to regenerate the whole document from the source file.

Adding annotations for review

A manager annotating a team member's draft report adds comments, highlights key sections, and inserts arrows pointing to figures that need updating. The annotated PDF is returned as the review copy.

Filling in form-style PDFs without form fields

Some forms are PDFs with blank lines but no actual form fields. Use the Add Text tool to type responses in the appropriate positions — faster than printing and handwriting.

Adding a company logo or stamp

Insert a company logo image on a document header, or add a stamp image (RECEIVED, APPROVED, PAID) on specific pages.

Troubleshooting and edge cases

The font doesn't match after I edit text.

Exact font matching is only possible when the original PDF's embedded font is one the browser can access. For near-perfect matching, choose the closest available font in the text toolbar. For major mismatches, add the correction as a white rectangle covering the old text, then a new text box on top in a matching font.

I can't click on text to select it.

If the PDF is a scanned image rather than a digital document, there's no text layer to edit. Run OCR PDF first to add a text layer, then open the OCR'd output in the editor.
